Solar thermal and photovoltaic-powered desalination systems — delivering fresh water from seawater and brackish sources to ultra-pure industrial process water, without fossil fuels.
Proven solar desalination technology, operational since 2013.
Pioneers in solar desalination
Water scarcity is one of the defining infrastructure challenges of rapidly growing economies. Empereal is among the few companies worldwide with combined expertise in clean power and water. We design and deliver solar-powered desalination systems that produce ultra-pure water without any fossil fuel dependency.
Core Technologies
Empereal selects and designs the optimal desalination technology based on your energy source, water quality requirements, salinity levels, and project scale.
Linear Fresnel Reflector (LFR) solar thermal fields generate direct saturated steam to drive multi-effect distillation (MED) units. Includes thermal storage for uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Solar ThermalPhotovoltaic arrays power reverse osmosis (RO) membranes to produce fresh water from seawater or brackish sources. Ideal for both grid-connected and off-grid applications, scalable from 1,000 to over 1,000,000 litres per day.
Grid & Off-GridAdvanced forward osmosis for industrial effluent recovery and low-energy desalination. Solar-biomass hybrid configurations enable round-the-clock fresh water production in remote locations without battery storage.

Unified Renewable Energy
Zamani Islands Resort
A fully renewable-powered net-zero resort spanning 8 islands in the Maldives. The development integrates large-scale BIPV, net-zero architecture, agri-photovoltaics, and a circular zero-waste strategy. Located 21 nautical miles from Velana International Airport.
Solar Thermal Desalination
Linear Fresnel Reflector (LFR) solar thermal fields generate direct saturated steam from concentrated solar radiation — eliminating heat transfer fluids and reducing system complexity. The steam directly drives multi-effect distillation (MED) units, producing ultra-pure water at less than 5 ppm.
Thermal energy storage using phase-change materials ensures uninterrupted desalination, enabling true 24/7 fresh water production from renewable energy.
Scope of Services
Empereal's water and desalination scope covers the full project lifecycle — from initial source water analysis through design, EPC, commissioning, and long-term O&M.
Design and installation of Linear Fresnel Reflector solar thermal fields driving multi-effect distillation (MED) systems with thermal storage.
Solar photovoltaic-powered RO systems for seawater and brackish water — suitable for grid-connected and off-grid applications.
Low-energy forward osmosis systems for industrial wastewater treatment and water reuse.
Round-the-clock fresh water production combining solar thermal with biomass backup — no fossil fuel dependency.
Decentralised community and remote location solutions for areas with no reliable grid power.
Complete engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, authority approvals, and ongoing performance monitoring & maintenance.
Applications
Empereal's solar desalination systems serve diverse end-users — from remote island communities to large industrial facilities requiring ultra-pure process water.
Standalone seawater desalination powered entirely by solar — providing reliable fresh water without fossil fuel supply chains.
Flue gas waste heat recovery converting cooling tower blowdown into demineralized water — reducing industrial water consumption.
Ultra-pure process water (< 5 ppm) for boilers, manufacturing processes, and industrial cooling — reducing reliance on municipal supply.
Decentralized community-scale water production without grid dependence — sustainable, affordable fresh water in underserved regions.
Sustainable fresh water systems for net-zero tourism developments — paired with solar PV and thermal energy to eliminate dependencies.
Large-scale solar desalination for public water infrastructure — scalable from pilot plants to municipal-scale systems supplying thousands.
